I found this today!
3 full songs off the upcoming NY Dolls CD "One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This"
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/art...lls/music.aspx
Personally, I really like it.
"Dancing on the lip of a volcano" - has kind of a Stones/Dolls/Tom Petty kinda vibe to it. A very cool tune!
"Take a look at my good looks" - This could easily have come off of Keith Richards first solo album. Cool laid back tune.
"Dance Like a monkey" - This sounds like the old Dolls. It has a real "Stranded in the jungle" to it.
If this a good indicator what the CD is going to be like, sign me up!

DLAM, that's my fave there. It brings to mind early 1970s Latin Funk/Post Bugalu such as Jimmy Castor Bunch as it does Stranded In The Jungle.
Who wrote that one?

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BUSTER POINDEXTER sings on the outtakes from "In style".
I'm not playing anymore. The Dolls did their bit, you can't have a 30 year break and hope to recapture any of what made it special to start with. Sorry guys its not very good and i'm not going to defend its worth just because they've used the name.
These guys are my all time heros up there with the Stones so belive me this hurts me more than it will most of you.

Thanks for the link Hazardous... I am kind of with Hud on this one, but maybe not to quite the same extent. I LOVE the Dolls & they were the only band I ever got tattooed (don't try that one at home, kids!)
The 3 songs are fine on first listen. I was really shocked with the intro of Dancing on the lip of a volocano (particularly as the guitar didn't sound like Thunders - yes, I know he's dead before anyone pipes up) but ironically the solo was textbook Thunders.
It all kinda reminds me of Voodoo Lounge era Rolling Stones... which is kinda of what I was expecting. It's pleasant enough, I'd probably play it in the car for a couple of weeks but I don't think it'd be on my desert island discs.
Since the classic era, we've had fine, fine stuff like "Flowers in the City" (Johansen), "Lonely In Love" (Yaffa) & Kids are Back (Sylvain). I don't really think that those songs are even up there with any of those (at least not on 1st listen).
I appreciate that it's there name to use but I would be a lot more up for it if they called it Johansen / Sylvain or something. Losing Thunders was a massive loss. Nolan ditto. Now that Kane is gone to it does seem to be stretching it all a bit thin. I say this out of genuine love & respect for the band.

That is NOT the NYD
They should have let the legend live instead of killing it

I know purists will dismiss this, and they have
every right. But I'm taking it for what it is and
I quite enjoy it after a few listens. There are
10 more tracks, so I'll judge it overall once I
hear the whole thing.
To me Johannsen was a huge part of the Dolls, and to
me it still has that sound, maybe not quite the way
it sounded years back, but it's still there.
As far as the name goes, c'mon....There are umpteen bands out there using names where their might only
be one or two original members. I feel if they are
still carrying the spirit of the original idea and
they were an integeral part of the band, then more
power to them.

I've found that a lot of people who got into The Dolls because of The HBs don't really understand the differnce between the two. Dolls were a sharp-dressed band with lots of female fans. HBs were "bohemian," and catered to that contingent.
As for Dave solo, he pretty much got the female fan contingent, plus his releases were more about music than silliness such as heroin and male prostitution, which was the "punk" stock in trade. That is why HB fans despise him so.
"In Style" was great, NO "disco" on it that I can find, mostly cha-chas, othr Latin styles, and some Caribbean and Motown as well.

Thanks Sandy!
This was really cool and actually a lot better than I had expected. Sure I miss Nolan's teriffic drumming and Thunders' way overrated guitar skills, but this is still really cool.
I agree with your descriptions of the songs as well. I also agree with those of you who say this doesn't sound like the first 2 Dolls albums, but I didn't expect that anyway. It sounds more like good rocking Johansen/Sylvain solo work and I liked almost all the solo works of all the Dolls.
I'm happy they used the name New York Dolls for it. Fuck that was a 70's band and there really is no option to have more original members in there so I'm happy with what I get.
Especially liked the last track! Way better than Stranded In The Jungle!

Dancing on the Lip of a Volcano is cool. It's very Johnanson "In Style". I think the biggest difference is that Davey boy can sing now a lot better than back then... not sure if that's a good thing... but.
Take a good look at my good looks.. this is good. a bit of a country feel to DJ's vox, IMO.
Dance like a monkey.. this is the most New York Dolls soundsing track out of the three...
I was a bit skeptical about this new album at first. but from these three it's a buy!
Dance like a monkey child!

It's not bad, but it's not great. I'll be grabbing it once it hits the streets, but I won't be rushing to it with blind excitement. I like the dolls as a whole, while loving certain songs. They had more than their fare share of crap though. They're one of those bands I need to be in the mood for anymore.
